Palm Beach, Florida. – April 1, 2006-- President George W. Bush has announced his intention to appoint Harris N. Hollin, Chairman and Founder of the Conquer Fragile X Foundation, to the President’s Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities.
The President’s Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities (PCPID) was originally formed by President John F. Kennedy and has been actively representing people with mental retardation and intellectual disabilities for over three decades. The Committee is comprised of leaders from the private sector, academic and research communities. The council advises the President on issues related to persons with intellectual disabilities and their needs.
Hollin, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, is one of ten new PCPID appointments, which has a total of 21 civilian members and also includes representation from the various Departments of the Federal government including the Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Labor, and Department of Homeland Security.
When asked about his Presidential appointment to the PCPID, Harris Hollin said "I am delighted at the opportunity to work with the other members of the President's Committee on the many issues important to the entire Intellectual Disability Community. I especially look forward to bringing Fragile X Syndrome to the attention of the Committee and the Community." He hopes his tenure with the Committee will give him the opportunity, as an affected family member, to put his skills and experience to work on behalf of people around the country, especially in S. Florida, affected by Intellectual Disabilities and their families.
Prior to founding the Conquer Fragile X Foundation, Harris Hollin built the pharmaceutical company, Lemmon, now a division of TEVA Pharmaceuticals. He also served as the President of the Revlon Corporation’s International Pharmaceutical Division. His professional, business and philanthropic experience demonstrate a life long commitment to the developmentally disabled. He has been personally and profoundly touched by his grandson, Matthew, who is fully affected by Fragile X Syndrome.
